Buenos Aires Study Abroad Program

Peace!

I’m Asya, a Global Studies major at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and I’m planning to study abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina from July-November for this upcoming fall semester during my senior year.  Being a Global Studies major it is required to study abroad, so I chose to apply to the Latin American Studies CEA program in Buenos Aires because it fit all the components of where I dreamed of studying abroad in terms of location, the curriculum, and culture. Within my major, my thematic area is global health and my area of study is in Latin America and the Caribbean which is a key reason as to why I chose to study abroad in Argentina.

Currently I’m at a point in my life where I want to be challenged academically, professionally, and personally, so when it comes to my study abroad experience I hope to gain a lot as it relates to my academics, my professional career, and personal life. My career goal in the future is to work for a non-profit or non-governmental organization that specifically aims at improving and providing access to medical care for children and mothers. Not only am I applying to this study abroad program because it’s necessary for the completion of my major, but this particular program I believe will help me grow as a student and assist with developing my future plans. While abroad I do plan to gain more volunteer experience, particularly in the health field and start researching internships and job opportunities that are available in the region after graduation.

Being a first-generation college student and as a Black Muslim female attending the University of Illinois, where I don't see many others like myself, I think it is important to seize every opportunity locally and abroad that I’m blessed to be presented with.

While attending college thus far, I’ve been blessed to receive numerous grants and scholarships which have tremendously helped offset the cost of my tuition and other school fees. Currently, I receive roughly $13,000 a semester in financial aid and the total cost for my study abroad program is $21,394.00. I am still in need of $8,000 to cover additional fees for my trip (which includes tuition, airfare, housing, and provider fees).

All donations are much appreciated and thank you for the support and love!!
