Buddy Needs Help - Xylitol Poisoning

I adopted Buddy as an abuse Rescue, he was dumped to fend for himself after being mistreated. He is missing a few teeth and still very fearful of boots,and men in general. He has went through Dog training and socialization but remains very cautious. Buddy stole a pack of gum, I caught him with it and took it away. When we first took Buddy to the vet, he thought Buddy had gotten into antifreeze but I assured him it had to be something else as we had none around and the cars did not leak. Then we thought it was the new bag of dog food and had it checked.

If we had known chewing gum was so dangerous to dogs, he may not have gotten so sick. I did not realize gum contains xylitol, which causes a dog to become hypoglycemic.  The gum caused Buddy to dehydrate and go into shock in 2 days time . I rushed him to the vet . They put him on fluids but the shock had caused him kidney failure. Buddy is at the University of Florida Veterinary School And has Been Undergoing Dialysis. His prognosis is very good at this time , His Kidneys have Resumed working but I need help to finish paying off his bill so he can come home . We have already spent over $5,000 dollars and just do not have the extra money right now to keep up the medical treatment so he can hopefully survive.
