Bucking Horse Hay

Donation protected
If you feel like donating to help us buy hay this winter, I'd certainly appreciate it.

I have about 100 bucking horses and 20 rodeo bulls and 20 cows.  In normal times, the rodeo business that my family runs does enough to pay its own bills. In other words, the work that the animals do at the rodeos across the country makes enough money that it pays the bills for the animals and the rodeo company.

But this year has been different. 2020 has been relentless.

This year has been a year of cancelled rodeos, lost income, belt tightening, revised budgets, more belt tightening, another round of rodeo cancellations. You kind of hunker down and wonder what else could happen? Add all the stress of EVERYTHING, fires, weather, the passing of my grandparents and mother-in-law, everything! This year has been hard.

There have been some blessing this year also. As hard as it was, I don't think we'd have been able to help the family with the health problems that happened around us if we weren't home this summer. Our rodeo company got a national award recognizing the quality of our bucking horses.  We've had some organizations, rodeo committees, and people go out of their way to help us. We have been blessed, even when we've struggled. It's been an emotional year, and people being nice to us gets me choked up each time. It's because of other people offering support and encouraging us that I'm creating this Go Fund Me account. Asking for help is hard also.

Here's what I'm trying to get done. We usually go to about 22 rodeos a year. This year we got to four. We lost about 90% of our business income this year. But I am going to try to keep the business intact for next year, which means keeping the animals fed and healthy until rodeos can open up again. When will that happen? I don't know. How much money will that take? I don't know. I just know that I need to feed a bunch of animals through the winter, and people have said they'd help if I gave them a chance.

The $65,000 is what I figure I spend during a year on pasture and hay. I don't expect that I'll need that level of support. God, I hope not. But I set a number, and one that would help explain what I'm trying to do. I have some hay put up already. I've adjusted and changed things around already. I've slashed most extra things from our family budget in order to feed horses and bulls this winter. I'll get this done somehow, but it would be nice to get some help.

Thanks for sharing your time with me,

Daniel
