My dad, who lives in India, was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia in 2010. He has since undergone 2 rounds (6 sessions each) of chemotherapies with Bendamustine and Rituximab and has had multiple blood transfusions during the process.
As if fighting cancer wasn't enough, his insurance company pulled out mid way during the first round of chemo therapy and we have been paying for my dad's treatment out of our pocket. But money was never a deciding factor for dad's treatment, after all why must someone's bank balance decide whether a person should receive treatment or not, especially when it is something that can save somebody's life! All of this was true until now.
Unfortunately, my dad's cancer has worsened. The doctors have reached a conclusion that he can not receive anymore chemotherapy. But there is still hope. The doctors have prescribed a non-chemo drug called Ibrutinib for the foreseeable future and this is where my dad needs your help. The cost of the drug is about 180,000 Indian Rupees which is CAD $3,300 per month.
My family can not afford this cost, but we desperately need the medication for his recovery. We therefore request you to help us in our unfortunate time. My dad deserves his chance at life. He deserves a chance to retire when he wants to and not be forced to retire because of the cancer - the disease forced him to quit his job. He deserves a chance to greet and welcome his grandchildren when the time comes. He deserves a chance to get old with my mom. He deserves a chance at life. Please help us help my dad.
