Brunswick, GA Community Labyrinth Project!

Hi! I'm Bonnie Springer one of the group of Brunswick, GA and Glynn County citizens working together in a grassroots initiative to install a permanent labyrinth in the City's Goodyear Park, for promoting unity, healing, health, equity and reflection. in our community. If we are able to raise the funds, we are scheduled for installation by the end of December 2021!

 

We, the Brunswick Labyrinth Project, have been working and planning for more than two years. In the midst of our efforts, our community became the center of national attention because of a horrible murder. Our efforts intensified in our desire to contribute something tangible towards a future of unity and oneness for our small community. We invite you to help us bring this dream into reality. We would be forever grateful for your support of our dream.

The labyrinth is a walkway in a circular repetitive pattern created by intricately cut and fitted pavers. Walkers enter the path at a clearly marked entrance and follow the design as it loops around and around, eventually exiting near the entrance. It is paved, flat, and open; there are no hidden or dead ends. By slowly walking, following the rhythmic pattern of turns and curves, the walker gains a sense of meditative peace. Labyrinths are found all over world as part of many public and private garden, church, and healthcare landscapes. Cooperating with the city and hospital, and with neighborhood, church, civic groups, and individuals we look forward to bringing a labyrinth space to our area. The photo here is the newly installed brick labyrinth in the park. As you can see, we now focus on beautification of the space around the labyrinth and the installation of benches for sitting reflection and enjoyment. The site has free and accessible parking, and is less than a ten minute walk from the Southeast Georgia Medical System’s physician’s office buildings and hospital. The City of Brunswick and Southeast Georgia Medical Services are enthusiastic partners. 

 

We invite everyone whose heart has wanted to do something tangible for the community of Glynn County, GA to contribute to this project. Each contribution, no matter the amount, will bring this dream closer to a reality. Part of our “dream” is that the small contributions of many, like tiny drops of rain that gain momentum and become a flowing stream, will be offered to cover the remaining costs. Contributions will be used to defray the repayment of a loan received to purchase the Labyrinth kit and to pay for the beautification of the space surrounding the brick walking path.

Contributions made to this personal fundraiser will be deposited as charitable contributions by us to St. Mark's Episcopal Church and earmarked for the Labyrinth Project. We will send each contributor a letter acknowledging your charitable contribution. We are not a 501(c)3 organization so we thank St. Marks for helping serve to assist contributors in this way.

 

A labyrinth offers one of the oldest contemplative tools known to humankind that is used for personal and spiritual growth. Walking a labyrinth helps to calm the mind, still the thoughts, get insights, receive guidance, solve problems and set goals. The labyrinth is intended to be a tool for individual and group reflection, contemplation and healing. The design we have chosen is called “Round Classical”. According to The Labyrinth Company, it is “an adaptation of the millenia-old Classical type found on every continent in prehistory.”
