Update
December 27, 2017
Thank you all for your contributions.  It’s been very uplifting for Bruce to see how many people care about him.
We have a new glitch, poor Bruce. Somewhere, somehow, he has contracted Hepatitis. We are trying to identify whether it’s A or B.  A week ago, he started to feel an overall  serious malaise, lost his appetite, and a few other telltale symptoms.  How did this happen??!!  We are waiting for the more specific diagnosis.  He’s been resting and the symptoms are slowly subsiding.  His blood work looks a little better as well.

As for Bruce’s hand, it is doing it’s slow recovery properly, so far as we can tell. Bruce sees a hand therapist weekly and has tiny stretching exercises for the 3 fingers that are allowed movement.  The index finger, which has pins holding it,  needs to be still so that the two pieces fuse. (The hand still looks like a shark chomped on it.). The best part is that Bruce has really good attitude and fortitude.  He tries to do as much as he can with his left hand and accepts help only when the task is impossible. He’s being very brave and positive, focusing on adapting to the situation as it is.

Dear Friends,
After 48 years of  a career as a woodworker and never having an injury, my partner Bruce had a serious accident in his shop on December 1st.  A glove on his right hand was caught and drawn into his table saw blade.  It amputated his index finger and mangled all the rest.

Bruce has had reconstructive micro-surgery and may need more.  He has months of rehab and will not be able to work.  He is thinking creatively about how to complete jobs without being there and pay his shop overhead and rent.  He will not be able to work for an indeterminate amount of time and does not know if he can return to woodworking ever again.

Bruce is self-employed. His deductible for the surgery was $6,500. The deductible starts over with the new year.  He has no disability insurance and, being self-employed, does not qualify for state disability either. He needs our help.  This fund will help him pay for his rents, current medical bills, future surgeries, and general expenses of survival.  Thank you for any amount that you can contribute.
