Breast Cancer Can’t Break Brooke

Brooke is a third year pharmacy student at Samford University's McWhorter School of Pharmacy who was diagnosed with breast cancer soon after returning from spring break. A couple of weeks later, she was taken to the emergency room with what we all believed to be kidney stones. She had just turned 23, and it came as a huge shock when we were told there were no kidney stones.

She has stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that has spread to her bones.

Brooke has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout pharmacy school on top of being an active member in multiple pharmacy organizations, a weekly volunteer for local organizations, a pharmacy intern, and playing intramural sports. She has earned an invitation into Rho Chi, the academic pharmacy honor society, and Phi Lambda Sigma, the pharmacy leadership society.

There is currently no cure for her cancer, but she will begin treatment soon. She has clearly worked hard to make it through her first three years of graduate school, and there is no doubt she will excel throughout her fourth year beginning in May despite her diagnosis.

Between driving each day to rotation sites, traveling for residency interviews, attending important national conferences, and tuition, the fourth year of pharmacy school is extremely expensive. Her family now has the burden of the cost of cancer treatment in addition to school.

If you can do anything, just pray. That is what she needs more than anything right now. The Lord can heal her and He will use this time. If you feel led to donate financially, her and her family would be forever grateful.
