Senior year of high school is about making memories, college visits, time with friends, Senior prom, Senior trip and countdown to graduation...Brooke was preparing for and enjoying all these things.
She underwent open heart surgery in mid-August of 2018; just before her senior year started. Brooke has always been a scrappy little fighter and she met the surgery head on and over came. Brooke's family was high on life and relieved after her recovery.
Brooke was beginning to get back into her senior year and enjoy life, including the football homecoming game, where she was a queen candidate. Her fun loving, light up the room personality is infectious and you can't help but love her.
But the following Tuesday, to everyone's shock and dismay, Brooke became the victim of a stroke. The doctors determined the stroke was not related to her heart surgery.
Brooke is currently in the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit and is sedated after undergoing two surgeries. One to remove blood clots in her brain and carotid artery, and one to remove a portion of her skull to relieve pressure from brain swelling. It is a hard game of waiting. Everyone wants answers and unfortunately, it is just a long process. Changes are, Brooke will be in the hospital several weeks and then be transferred to a rehabilitation facility to regain strength and undergo therapies that are deemed necessary for her recovery.
Everyone feels pretty helpless and wonders what they can do. The best way to show love and support for Brooke and her family is to pray for them. Brooks needs prayers for miraculous healing and her family needs prayers for strength and wisdom during this trial.
As you can imagine, Craig and Kendra were already swamped with medical bills and travel expenses from her open heart surgery. Another way to show love and support would be by giving a financial donation to help them offset medical and other expenses associated with having their precious daughter receiving extensive out of town medical treatment.
