Help Brittany Fight Ovarian Cancer

Beschermde donatie
Thank you for checking out our story about our daughter Brittany, who just turned 18. She is a senior in highschool. However, Brittany has been sick for the past couple months, throwing up, horribly short of breath and a large weight loss. Doctors kept telling us it was first a viral infection, then it was pneumonia, then an ultrasound that results showed it was renal cysts and her gall bladder. She was put on 3 different antibiotics and nothing seemed to be getting better. We were persistent with the doctors, saying that it was more then what they're treating her for. A group of girls at school even took it as far as bullying her and calling her fat with all the fluid her body had been collecting. She continued to feel worse and things spun outta control. She not only felt as if she was 'dieing', in her own words, but was also becoming severely depressed. Finally, a doctor listened to us. He pushed for a stat abdominal ct scan which showed an 18cm tumor in her abdomen. We were sent to Hershey Medical and admitted so she could see the oncologist first thing in the morning. He met with us that morning and took her for surgery a short time after. He removed the very large tumor, her ovary and fallopian tube as well as almost 4 liters of fluid and blood from her abdomen. She not only had this fluid in her abdomen, but it was also in her lungs. The vast size of the tumor was pushing fluid into her lungs, which was causing her shortness of breath. They removed 1.2 liters of fluid the following day of her surgery, due to hopes of removing the tumor would resolve her lung fluids. She is recovering well from her surgery. She's been so much happier and just full of life. We returned to her oncologist on the December 29th, 2014 for her post-op visit. He was happy with how good she looked. Her lungs are nice and clear and color has finally returned to her face. He however, gave us the worst news anyone could ever receive. Her pathology tests all came back positive for cancer and that she will need to undergo chemo. As much of a shock as this is for her and our family, she is ready to fight this battle and beat cancer. She is having a very positive outlook on this whole experience and just wants to get better so she can move on with her life and be the happy teenager she is meant to be. Now her attitude and outlook is very positive, as she said, "She's got this!".

Brittany has been one of the strongest, happiest 18 year olds I have been lucky enough to call my step daughter. She is in high spirits. I am trying to raise a little bit of money for her care and anything she needs along the way, as her mother has stop working so she can take care of her daughter full time. Brittany was told on December 29th 2014 at the age of 18 that she has Ovarian Cancer. From that very moment, her attitude as been "She's got this and we WILL beat it!" We are just asking for some small donations to help us along the way. It going be a long ride and we know along the way we going be short on paying some bills as the trip to the hospital is 50 miles each way from our home. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read our story. We will be adding more news and updates along the way. All the money donated will go to the care and needs of Brittany, as her mom will be helping with her care and the money will be used for food, bills, and anything else to make sure Brittany is as comfortable as possible. Thank you so much.

Today was one of the hardest, yet proudest days of our journey.  When we first found out that Brittany had cancer, she was very eager to donate her hair to Locks of Love.  [ www.locksoflove.org ]  So today, my sister and I helped her fulfill this request as she is guaranteed to lose all of her hair throughout her chemotherapy.  It was a very emotional day for all of us, but I am soo proud of her.  It was such a big and mature decision for such a lil girl to make.  I support her every step of the way.  She's got a heart of gold.  As they say, there's always a way to make a positive out of a negative.  This girls got em 100% beat!
