THE PROJECT

Association Jiboiana , after succeeding to realize a major project hand-in-hand with the Huni Kuin indigenous community of the Igarapé of Caucho, where a 1000 guardians of the forest live in 4 different villages - a project that consisted of building 3 water wells equipped with solar panels and change the filters in wells already installed (that will provide clean water for years to more than 500 of Huni Kuin), 2 plant nurseries and planting thousands of seeds for reforestation and food autonomy -, Association Jiboiana allies with other organizations to beget positive changes on a political level :

We invited 4 indigenous leaders to Paris, Glasgow (Scotland) for COY16, COP26 and a demonstration in Brussels against the MERCOSUR free-trade treaty, so that they can raise awareness on their crucial role as guardians of Nature to tens of thousands of people.

We truly think indigenous wisdoms, ancestral knowledges and cooperation with indigenous communities are paramount to answer the existential crises our industrial societies are facing. That is why founding members of Association Jiboiana, Laëtitia Jeanpierre-Berraud and Leo Landon were in Brasilia to march side by side with 6000 representatives of 176 indigenous peoples against the Bolsonaro's government Law Project PL490, right after the project in the Amazon.

By listening wholeheartedly and learning consciously from those who have been living in harmony with Nature for thousands of years, we might be able to transform ourselves, cultivate resilience - thus mitigating climate change.

THE DELEGATION

For now, three out of the four indigenous leaders we invited confirmed their presence for these important events about the protection of the environment :

We are waiting for the other leader’s response.

We want to emphasize the fact that oftentimes when indigenous leaders come to major events, the invitations are primarily sent to men. Yet, as it is the case the world over, indigenous women are important in their communities: more and more are being recognized as caciques, Pajés (shamans) and peaceful fighters. We wish to support women’s representation and therefore, out of four invited leaders, three are women well-known for their commitments.

OUR PLEA AT THE EVENTS

One of the key problems encountered by indigenous peoples, in Amazonia as elsewhere in the world, concerns land demarcation. Since indigenous peoples are often removed from their ancestral lands, confined in reservations or in assigned areas, the legal, political and material grey areas related to the territories where they are living lead to abuses and ill-treatment. Therefore, together with Jiboiana, indigenous leaders demand clear land demarcations, and international respect for these delimitations.

It is now urgent to institutionalize and enforce these territory limits, even more so as we know that the areas inhabited by indigenous peoples are the best preserved on the planet.

This is in view of the free-trade treaty between South America and Europe, MERCOSUR (whose goal is massive deforestation for the establishment of cattle farms and low-quality soybean monocultures) and of Bill PL490 - the two being closely connected - that the leaders and Jiboiana make this claim.

THE PROGRAM

A lot of indigenous leaders have already been invited to these events - needless to say, little concrete actions were taken to respond to their concerns. Aware of this, our goal in Glasgow and Brussels isn’t truly to speak to presidents and decision-makers as it didn’t work in the past, but to address hundreds of thousands of world citizens about the role of indigenous peoples in the preservation of Nature.

That is why our strategy is to multiply our platforms, speaking opportunities, intercultural exchanges. We are convinced that great changes won’t come from the top but from the grassroots - meaning us, the people, activists, whistleblowers, and simple citizens.

Because our Association Jiboiana have been warned about COP26 in April and then began to initiate the project, after the admissions’ deadline (March), we are not sure that we’ll be able to enter the Conference ; nonetheless, we will send our project to admitted organizations to increase the indigenous leaders’ chances of being heard - but it is not the core of our endeavor, as mentioned before.

We therefore organized a program including diverse panels and activities in order to reach out to as wide an audience as possible :

Participation to COY16 (28th to 31st October) and possibly COP26
Cooperation with UNA organization for panels, cultural exchanges and a bonfire kindled by indigenous leaders from all around the world, from the 28th of October to 5th of November
Potential collaboration with Film Strike for Climate
A demonstration in the streets of Glasgow with Extinction Rebellion Scotland on the 6th of November
An support gathering in the Scotland rainforest with organizations Raleigh International and Alliance for Scotland Rainforest, on the 7th of November
Demonstration in Brussels on the 8th/9th of November, and participation to the Lusophone Cinema festival

DATES AND BUDGET

As the COY16 begins on the 28th of October, we plan to arrive on this day. We will stay with the indigenous delegation until the 8th of November, for the event with Raleigh International, before flying to Brussels for two days of demonstrations and cultural activities.

For the budget, we will pay everything for the indigenous leaders and their guardians :

As Jiboiana’s team work volunteerily, and that our travel will be expensive for us, we add 8.000 euros (for 6 people) to pay for our coming to these events. If we don’t manage to gather enough funds, we will pay for ourselves.

O PROJETO

A Associação Jiboiana, após conseguir realizar um grande projeto de mãos dadas com a comunidade indígena Huni Kuin do Igarapé do Caucho, onde vivem 1000 guardiões da floresta em 4 aldeias diferentes - projeto que consistiu na construção de 3 poços de água equipados com painéis solares e troca de filtros em poços já instalados (que vão fornecer água limpa por anos a mais de 500 de Huni Kuin), 2 viveiros de plantas e plantio de milhares de sementes para reflorestamento e autonomia alimentar -, Associação Jiboiana aliada a outras organizações para gerar mudanças positivas em um nível político:

Convidamos 4 líderes indígenas em Paris, França, Glasgow, Escócia, para COY16, COP26 e uma manifestação em Bruxelas contra o tratado de livre comércio do MERCOSUL, para que eles possam aumentar a conscientização sobre seu papel crucial como guardiões da Natureza para dezenas de milhares de pessoas.

Embora os povos indígenas representem apenas 5% da população mundial, eles protegem 80% da biodiversidade da Terra. Só estes dois números nos dão a incrível extensão de sua importância no que é o maior desafio de nosso tempo: mudar nossa maneira de pensar e viver para prosperar em harmonia com nosso meio ambiente.

Achamos realmente que as sabedorias indígenas, os conhecimentos ancestrais e a cooperação com as comunidades indígenas são fundamentais para responder às crises existenciais que nossas sociedades industriais estão enfrentando. Por isso, os fundadores da Associação Jiboiana, Laëtitia Jeanpierre-Berraud e Leo Landon estiveram em Brasília para marchar lado a lado com 6.000 representantes de 176 povos indígenas contra o governo de Bolsonaro, o Projeto de Lei PL490, logo após o projeto na Amazônia. Ouvindo de todo coração e aprendendo conscientemente com aqueles que vivem em harmonia com a natureza há milhares de anos, podemos ser capazes de nos transformar, cultivar a resiliência - amenizando assim a mudança climática.

A DELEGAÇÃO

Por enquanto, três dos cinco líderes indígenas que convidamos confirmaram sua presença para esses importantes eventos sobre a proteção do meio ambiente :

- Valdelice Veron, representante e militante do povo Guarani-Kaiowa, conhecido e respeitado no Brasil.

- Mapu Huni Kuin, um jovem líder e ativista indígena, que já viajou muitas vezes pelo mundo para realizar cerimônias, fala sobre as culturas indígenas e a preservação da Amazônia.

- Alice Pataxó, jovem ativista e jornalista do povo Pataxó, luta pelos direitos e status das mulheres, territórios e educação indígena.

Estamos aguardando a resposta dos outros dois líderes.

Queremos enfatizar o fato de que, muitas vezes, quando os líderes indígenas vêm a grandes eventos, os convites são enviados principalmente aos homens. No entanto, como acontece em todo o mundo, as mulheres indígenas são importantes em suas comunidades: cada vez mais são reconhecidas como caciques, pajés (xamãs) e militantes pacíficas. Desejamos apoiar a representação das mulheres e, portanto, dos quatro líderes convidados, três são mulheres conhecidas por seus compromissos.

NOSSO APELO NOS EVENTOS

Um dos principais problemas encontrados pelos povos indígenas, na Amazônia como em outras partes do mundo, diz respeito à demarcação de terras. Como os povos indígenas são frequentemente removidos de suas terras ancestrais, confinados em reservas ou em áreas designadas, as áreas cinzentas legais, políticas e materiais relacionadas aos territórios onde vivem levam a abusos e maus-tratos. Portanto, juntamente com a Jiboiana, os líderes indígenas exigem demarcações de terra claras, e respeito internacional por essas delimitações.

Agora é urgente institucionalizar e impor esses limites territoriais, ainda mais porque sabemos que as áreas habitadas pelos povos indígenas são as mais bem preservadas do planeta.

É em vista do tratado de livre comércio entre a América do Sul e a Europa, do MERCOSUL (cujo objetivo é o desmatamento maciço para o estabelecimento de fazendas de gado e monoculturas de soja de baixa qualidade) e do Projeto de Lei PL490 - sendo os dois estando intimamente ligados - segundo afirmam as lideranças e a associação Jiboiana.

O PROGRAMA

Muitos líderes indígenas já foram convidados para estes eventos institucionais - mas é desnecessário dizer que poucas ações concretas foram tomadas para responder às suas preocupações. Ciente disso, nosso objetivo em Glasgow e Bruxelas não é realmente falar com presidentes e tomadores de decisão, pois não funcionou no passado, mas se dirigir a centenas de milhares de cidadãos do mundo sobre o papel dos povos indígenas na preservação da Natureza.

É por isso que nossa estratégia é multiplicar nossas plataformas, oportunidades de falar, intercâmbios interculturais. Estamos convencidos de que grandes mudanças não virão do topo do poder, mas da base - ou seja, de nós, do povo, dos ativistas, dos denunciadores e dos cidadãos simples.

Como nossa Associação Jiboiana foi advertida sobre a COP26 em abril e depois começou a iniciar o projeto, após o prazo de admissão (março), não temos certeza de que poderemos entrar na Conferência; no entanto, enviaremos nosso projeto a organizações admitidas para aumentar as chances dos líderes indígenas de serem ouvidos - mas não é o objetivo maior de nosso esforço, como mencionado anteriormente.

Portanto, organizamos um programa que inclui diversos painéis e atividades, a fim de alcançar um público o mais amplo possível:

Participação na COY16 (28 a 31 de outubro) e possivelmente na COP26
Cooperação com a organização UNA para painéis, intercâmbios culturais e uma fogueira acesa por líderes indígenas de todo o mundo, de 28 de outubro a 5 de novembro
Potencial colaboração com Film Strike for Climate
Manifestação nas ruas de Glasgow no dia 6 de novembro com ONGs, sociedades civis e ativistas
Um evento na floresta tropical escocesa com as organizações Raleigh International e Alliance for Scotland Rainforest, no dia 7 de novembro
Demonstração em Bruxelas no dia 8/9 de novembro e participação no festival no Cine Luso Espirito Mundo, festival de cinema lusófono engajado

DATAS E ORÇAMENTO

Como o COY16 começa no dia 28 de outubro, planejamos chegar neste dia. Ficaremos com a delegação indígena até 8 de novembro, para o evento com a Raleigh International, antes de voar para Bruxelas para dois dias de demonstrações e atividades culturais.

Para o orçamento, pagaremos tudo para os líderes indígenas e seus guardiões:

Transportes, passagens aéreas, acomodações, alimentação, atividades - e se conseguirmos reunir dinheiro suficiente, daremos aos líderes uma quantia em dinheiro para que eles invistam em projetos comunitários na Amazônia e em outros lugares do Brasil.
