Pet Cremation and bereavement Services

Past meadows is a revitalising way to creating a      FREE accessible Pet Cremation service for everyone.

By offering a service where there is simply No Charge. This will include a Collection and return of the Ashes within 30 miles as the crow flies from DN10 5DP. This area is covering the whole of Sheffield, Rotherham, Lincoln, Gainsborough, Scunthorpe, Brigg, Crowle, Pontefract, Castleford, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Worksop, Newark, Mansfield, Barnsley Selby, Barton upon Humber, Brough, Swanland, North and South Cave and Epworth.

After my elderly aunt losing her beloved Pet (Teddy) at home, She went onto tell me that she would have liked Teddy to be laid to rest with her when she goes for burial, So we seek’d out to get him Cremated, I telephoned to a few pet crematoria. However, I found the lack of empathy within the market and that some places were into “pushy sales tactics” eventually we did find a pet crematorium what fitted our needs however with most things this came with a price premium. After the collection of Teddy, we discussed happy memories and daft mannerism that he had. (Playing hide and seek with an 84-year-old)  We then got onto the conversation of “I wonder what will people do if they can’t afford it” And from there the Idea of Past Meadows was born.

StartUp
After approaching a lifelong friend, local Bawtry businessman and landowner one morning with the idea, He simply offered a lifelong Free tenancy agreement for one of his properties from the date of opening, He then went on to contact a planning Consultant who informed us that Planning wasn’t required, if The crematorium met specific guidelines and was within a commercially registered property, He is now one of our First kind benefactors however he has clearly told me that he wishes to remain anonymous. But my greatest thanks goes out to this person as they have set the wheels in motion.

So there it is laid on a plate, now the final push is to raise £39,500  this is required for the following Breakdown;

£21000 to supply and install an individual pet cremator and cremulator. This also includes the cost of training and tweaking to make sure the machine runs at optimal efficiency.

£1500 to supply 1750 litre Bunded fuel Tank and suitable piping equipped with an emergency shut off valves.

£1200 to allow the first Delivery of Fuel to supply the cremator.

£500 which will provide PPE. To all staff and volunteers consisting of Heat and Fire personal Protection Equipment.

£4500 To cover the following insurances; vehicle, Building and Contents and Public Liability, Within this budget a suitable Vehicle will be bought.

£1500 To supply office stationery and signage to the current building.

£4000 to supply Computers, telephones, Office Essentials, and a Farewell room within the Building for people to say there final goodbyes.

£1000 To build a fully optimised website for people to reach out for our services.

Study Sample
The average individual Dog Cremation Costs the Owner anywhere from £135-£280. This service tends to include a Collection within 5 Miles of the crematorium and a basic Cardboard Box containing the ashes of your pet for you to collect at a later date. After the 5 miles the cost being around £1.35 per mile this cost would also apply to the return of the ashes of your pet. Unless you are able to collect. Within that price the Cremation would take one week on average to prepare the ashes of your pet, For the same day service, an additional £25-£60 is required.

Creating a Total median price of £250*

Bearing in mind we plan to create a No Charge service.

Now this brings us to is the Well known fact that Poverty, within the UK has risen and it was reported by the DWP in 2016 that 21.6% of the population now live in relative poverty, Majority of it Being lived out by our elderly community, who aren’t able to perform a burial at there own homes due to the lack of mobility. It’s quite a saddening thought that during what can be your hardest moments, that you must organise your beloved pet's funeral, that’s why we want to put an End to Owners Suffering.

How will we provide a free service?
It’s quite simple, the initial Crowdfunding will essentially be our Startup Pot, following this donations can be paid by anyone, With an open approach to People viewing the Finances of “Past Meadows”.

What are the running costs?
An estimation depending on a pets Age to perform a cremation of the following pets are as follows;  Dogs £35-£55 Cats £25-£35 and Birds £15.

The current estimation Equates for Machine Running and maintenance.

How is this viable?
The same way all Charity’s and Not-for-profit companies are run by simply asking for a donation at the end of the service, making sure this is done in a non-obligation environment by sending a letter or Email, One week after the service is complete. Explaining in full detail that the service is completely free.

What about Staffing?
As with all similar operations, full-time staff will need to be paid and the wages will be set at the current National living wage according to the UK Government website. Volunteers will be taken on with positions available in full time and part.

We cannot do this without you.

Whatever you can spare, will make a big difference. And if you can’t afford to donate directly, sharing this plea further will assist us greatly.

Please donate and spread the word.
