On Friday, December 5th my 4 1/2 year old sweet nephew, Charlie Ashley, was taken by his father out of school in Springfield, MA. Our family has not seen him since that day. Charlie's father is keeping him away from the only family he has ever known. His mother, brother, sister, aunts, uncles and cousins all are heartbroken. Charlie's father has promised to wage an ugly custody battle in in order to keep him away from his family. On December 8th I was granted legal custody of Charlie by a judge in Massachusetts. Charlie's father has illegally taken him to North Carolina. I traveled to North Carolina to gather my beloved nephew on Friday, December 12th but was faced with loop hole after loop hole. It is my belief that Charlie's paternal grandmother, a former social worker in North Carolina, is using her knowledge of the system and connections there to circumvent the law. I am hoping and praying that the truth and law will prevail but am fearful that it will be a long and expensive battle. My family and I do not have the means to fight Charlie's father. I am sickened that we will not be able to successfully bring Charlie home. This is every family's nightmare. You hear about these situations in the news or see them in the movies but you never dream you will someday face this yourself. I am blessed with an incredibly strong, loving family. We have faced hard times before and prevailed. It is extremely difficult to ask others for help, particularly financial assistance. However, I feel I must muster the strength to ask for assistance in order to swiftly get my nephew home. I greatly appreciate any help you can give and your continued prayers.
