Ari's Journey to Ohio

Don protégé
Many have asked, Why Ohio? Well in a nut shell, Arianna will experience more acceptance and have better services there. It is a tough move but a nessassary one. We just found out, however, that even the best laid plans can fall apart.

So, all of our plans to move to Ohio were moving along swimmingly until my place of employment decided to "change their minds" on an agreement they had made. In a nut shell, they were going to pay out my summer pay in one lump sum before I left and end my contract. That was what our family has made all of our plans on for the last month. Then, last friday, 1 week before the move, they decided to pay it out over the summer in pieces. So, that leaves our family with no income on my part for 2 months with reduced checks through the summer. To say I am panicing is an understatement. I'm heartbroken that I have given so many years of my life to this job and at such a fragile time, when every cent counts, they would leave me in such a predicament.

We wanted to get a loan but of course, the hospital bills that we haven't been able to pay off yet are hurting our credit. We don't know where else to turn.

On April 26, 2014, our family's world would change forever with the birth of our daughter, Arianna. Prenatally diagnosed with Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) at only 19 weeks pregnant, nothing could have prepared us for what the future would hold. Arianna was born at 37 weeks. She was intubated at birth because she wasn't breathing. Her swollen abdomen led doctors to investigate only to discover that Arianna had a swollen liver and spleen and an extremely high white blood cell count. She was admitted to the level 3 NICU at St. Mary's medical center. There she was diagnosed with TMD, a form of leukemia that is specific to trisomy 21. Arianna was treated with chemotherapy. After a 3 week recovery period, some leukemia still remained and she received a second course of chemotherapy. Arianna spent a total of one month in the nicu. She continues to be under the care of numerous doctors, including an oncologist, hemotologist, cardiologist and multiple therapist.
