Bring My family to Graduation

Hello everyone,

I want to thank you for looking at my fundraiser. 

In May, I will be the first in my family to graduate from college and I would love for my family to be there. Unfortunately, I come from a low-income-mixed-citizenship-status household meaning that the trip from Arizona to Pennsylvania would be too expensive, and even with the funds, it would be difficult to bring my family because a lot of them are undocumented. This brings me to this fundraiser. I hope that if we can get the funds then at least we will not have a financial barrier.

 

At this current moment, I cannot overlook what I need, and for me that is getting my family to my graduation. I’ve given a lot of myself to Haverford College, to its students, and to its spaces. My mom has this saying, “The more you give, the more you receive.” Thus far I have lived by it and now I am seeking to reap what I’ve sowed. In my undergraduate years, I’ve held workshops on allyship, healing, identity, and self-love. I’ve hosted tri-college conferences with international speakers bringing intersectional conversations relating to migration, queer rights, and indigenous autonomy to the forefront. I’ve worked abroad in Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Mexico following through with my own personal values of being involved in global service. This is to show that even if I do not have money to give, I can still put my energy and labor toward efforts relating to inclusivity and empowerment. Many of you know me from your classes, from my eight jobs, and my involvement in clubs and sports. I’ve been actively engaging with the Haverford College community and giving what I can to every relationship that I’ve encountered.

 

I don’t like to ask for help, but here I find myself in a position where this is not something I can handle on my own. I hope you feel inspired by what I’ve done these past few years and how I’ve affect your time in college to help me finally bring my family to the place where I’ve not only grown but have blossomed[km1] .
