Kaia was born to Travis and Kalyn Hammel on 3/6/24. She was born prematurely at 28 weeks and weighed 2 pounds 12.6 ounces.
This family is looking at up to 12+ weeks in the NICU. Recently, Kaia has gained weight and gotten stronger, but she still has a long NICU stay ahead of her.
The family lives in Warsaw, IL, but Kaia is in a hospital 2hrs away in Iowa City, IA. The family has to commute often, and Travis is now down to working part-time when he can to earn income. Kalyn is not working now and is staying with Kaia in Iowa City.
