Bring Hope to the Animals of Rural Panama

In the heart of rural Panama, a silent tragedy unfolds every day, hidden away from the world's gaze. It's a heartbreaking reality that we cannot ignore any longer. The dogs of Panama, innocent and defenseless, are suffering unimaginable pain and despair. Hi! My name is Joanna, and I have been living in Panama for the past six months. Since the beginning, I have witnessed firsthand the challenging lives many people lead in rural communities and how it directly impacts the well-being of their beloved animals. It's disheartening to see dogs suffering from malnutrition and illness despite their owners' best intentions. Often, the reason behind their poor health is the lack of financial resources to provide them with essential medications and treat intestinal parasites, fleas, and ticks. Tick-borne illnesses are all too common, posing serious risks to these innocent animals. It's heart-wrenching to witness their suffering and the unfortunate consequences that can arise if left untreated. Compounding this issue is the high number of puppies being born every year, adding to the cycle of suffering. Despite my best efforts to help by providing medication, preventative treatments, and support where possible, I have quickly reached the limit of what I can achieve alone. This is where Kathy, an incredible woman and the driving force behind this mission, comes into the picture. She has been dedicated to helping dogs and other animals in need within the local community for several years. Kathy's remarkable work centers around organizing spay and neuter clinics for local Panamanian pets. These clinics play a crucial role in minimizing the number of new puppies being brought into this world of suffering, often leading to heartbreaking scenarios where families are forced to abandon or even harm them due to the inability to provide for their needs. Let me tell you about one of the most recent rescues that Kathy shared with me. A female dog was found on the side of the road, unable to walk due to a spinal injury. The dog was brought to Kathy that night with a call for help. Kathy's compassion and determination kicked in, and she went above and beyond to provide veterinary care, but she didn't stop there. Kathy organized a collection within our local expat community to provide the dog with a special wheelchair. Witnessing how quickly and confidently the community came together to support this cause was awe-inspiring. Their eagerness to help stems from their deep respect and trust in Kathy, as she has proven time and time again to be fully dedicated to the welfare of animals. This story has a happy ending, the two ladies who found this girl, named her Holly, and gave her a loving forever home:) I'm reaching out to all of you today, seeking your support in raising funds to bolster this incredible mission. Spay and neuter clinics protect female dogs from repetitive pregnancies, ensuring they don't bear puppies until they become exhausted and succumb to illness.
