Bring Hope Hurricane Dorian Relief

Donation protected

The lives of 70,000 Bahamians residing on Abaco and Grand Bahama changed in a matter of hours when Hurricane Dorian arrived. Livelihoods were ruined, and individuals have lost everything like, their closest friends and family members as Dorian’s ripping winds and high storm surges took their lives.

Moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana has been a transition for us Bahamians. Leaving our families and friends from back home to further our education has brought many challenges. Imagine leaving your home to pursue a higher education to have a chance at a better life while facing the uncertainty that you won’t have a home to go back too. Hurricane Dorian has really changed the climate in The Bahamas, persons are not sure where their next meal will come from or if they will still be employed. Resources are scarce and it is heartbreaking for us to watch the videos of the physical and psychological damages from back home.

For many of us, we have experienced a hurricane, but this is the first one that we experienced without being physically there with our families and friends. Not knowing the whereabouts of your loved ones can really triple the feeling of homesickness however it is in our culture to work together and lean on each other for support. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for being there for us through this trying time. Through the uncertainty, anxiety and tough moments, we have felt your support. Thank you for your kind words, prayers and the love, we have felt through the last week.

As a result, we feel that is very important to create an opportunity to help our families directly affected by Hurricane Dorian. We are currently putting together donation boxes to personally send out to our families affected by Hurricane Dorian and this will assist in supporting, restoring and bringing hope.

We, the Bahamians students at Indiana Tech, (Aaliyah, Alfredo, Antonishka, Arianna, Markeal, and Oral) are asking for your support to help our family and community as we rebuild and restore the lives of our families affected in the storm.

If you are in the Fort Wayne area, we have a dropbox located at Indiana Tech at the Student Affairs front desk.  We are currently accepting any form of donation just to name a few, towels, blankets, toiletries, nonperishable items, baby items, batteries, portable charges, any article of clothing, first aid kits, and anything that you feel that may be beneficial of those affected by this tragedy.

The funds from this go fund me will go towards crucial supplies and covering any cost of shipping and delivery expenses.

Together we can not take away the devasting experience but we can make a difference in bringing hope in the life of those that are directly affected. Donations of any amount will be greatly appreciated, no amount is too small.
