Brien’s Post-Recovery Fund

In January of this year, our youngest brother Brien suffered an ischemic stroke.  Deprived of oxygen, his brain suffered damage leaving him with paralysis of his right arm & leg, halted/incomplete speech and significant memory loss:  He could no longer perform the simplest tasks like shaving, showering or even using the toilet.

This was the day before he was to start a new job (after being unemployed for several months).  All pretty tough news for someone who has supported himself through a variety of blue collar trades for most of his adult life.

He received only basic physical, occupational & speech therapy at an Oceanside medical center.  After a few weeks, he was released when Medi-Cal  ceased to cover his rehabilitation expenses. 

Consequently, we drove him to Sacramento to stay with our sister.  She generously opened her home to help with his long road to recovery (a partial one at best?). 

With four kids and her own physical handicap, their home situation presents a daily challenge even before Brien’s arrival.

Continuing outside rehabilitation care is needed and that, of course, is an expensive proposition.  Our collective resources are insufficient in covering Brien’s ongoing medical expenses.

So, we’re reaching out to solicit additional support from others.  We understand that everyone’s personal monetary situation is different.  So, we simply suggest that each be guided by their own heart and financial ability.  Every donation is ENORMOUSLY valued whether single-digit or greater.
