Brian's Chair Lift

Donation protected
I do not know where to even begin with this story. My father, Brian Gay, is with no doubt the most kind-hearted man I know. My father is now 55 years old, and has had type one diabetes since he was 6. The disease has taken major toles on his body. In 2011 he stubbed one of his toes on his left foot. What we thought was a minor issue, took over his whole life. The toe would not heal so the doctors amputated it, then that was not healing so they put multiple stents into his left leg to create blood flow. When that did not take, they took his leg just below his knee. While in the hospital, my dad suffered from an ulcer on the bottom of his right foot from having his legs up in the hospital. The doctor decided to run a line from the top to the bottom of my dad's right leg (trying to create blood flow). My dad complained for days about pain in his groin. The doctor kept telling my dad he was fine. They told him that he was going in for surgery to put antibiotics in his legs. When he was on the operating table, the doctor found that he was very wrong. My dad was filled with staph infection. His veins were disinigrating as the doctor watched. They ended up having to amputate the whole leg. My dad will never forgive that doctor, and to this day always says "if I had my leg I could do this" or "if I had my leg I would be working and we would have more money".  While my dad was in the hospital, in less than a year, he suffered multiple heart attacks, a diabetic coma, multiple upper-GI bleeds, and much more. My father's kidneys have failed and he has been on dialysis for about a year now. It has taken multiple attempts to get his port to work correctly. He recently had a mini stroke, and sees double out of one of his eyes. There have been multiple incidents where I have found him in unbelieveable pain and have had to call the ambulance. My poor father has been treated like a lab experiment. He has been operated on more times than I can count. Unfortunately, he cannot get up the stairs in my house. He has a small bed downstairs that he sleeps on every night, and my mom sleeps on the little couch next to him, for she fears leaving him alone in the night. My dad has been looking for a chair lift for the wall above our stairs, so that he can get back up to his bedroom and the big bathroom. It is such a hassle just to get him upstairs so he can bathe. The cheapest insurance comapanies can give him, under warrenty, is $2700. They originally wanted $3800, but my father told them he cannot afford that out of pocket. They said they can give him a used one for the $2700. Alls that I am asking is for a little empathy, not sympathy. I do not want you to feel bad for my father, and he would tell you the same. I just ask that you can put yourself in our family's shoes, and have a heart. Please help me get this chair lift for my father, as I am 18 years old and cannot do this on my own. Anything helps, even just a prayer.

******** UPDATE *****

So many people have reached out to me so quickly asking that I leave my dad's donation page up even though we have exceeded the goal. The extra money can go towards A LOT. trust me. His wheel chair is falling apart and so is his little scooter he uses to get around. Not to mention the never ending medical bills. I will keep the page up and we'll see how far we can go to better life for him. He deserves it after this long of suffering. ❤️
