Brianna DeMarais - SDSU Cheerleader

Brianna's Story, as told by her sister:

On September 16th of this year, Brianna's near year and a half of foot pain became too severe for her to tolerate any longer. Throughout the past year and a half, she has been seen at the Mayo Clinc by every specialist under the sun to determine the cause of her foot pain, with no luck. She was admitted multiple times to the ER and now the circulation in her foot was failing & her pain was continuing to worsen. On September 10th, while cheering on her Jacks on the sidelines, and again at practice on the 14th, the pain became intolerable. On September 16th, she was admitted to Sanford for the 2nd time where they found 2 blood clots that were cutting off circulation to her foot. Over the next 10 days spent in the ICU, she went through 4 procedures/ surgeries and was sent home. Her pain continued to escalate and her foot continued to get worse. Brianna was admitted once again on Sept. 30th, when the doctors determined that a decision needed to be made, as her foot was getting worse and doctors were concerned that it would spread up through her leg. A very difficult decision was made to amputate. On October 5th, a below the knee amputation surgery was completed. Brianna's journey to recovery has begun and there is no doubt in our minds that Brianna will be back on the sidelines to cheer on her Jackrabbits next season. She was determined to be a SDSU cheerleader after watching both of her sisters over the years. If you know Brianna, you know how selfless, dedicated, strong & resiliant she is, and whatever she sets her mind to, she does it.
