Brian Cox's Recovery Fund

I met Brian Cox while training in the fire academy three years ago. While being pushed every day to the breaking point during the academy, Brian was always upbeat and motivated. I learned the full extent of how great a guy Brian is once we were stationed together at the same firehouse. Everyday as a firehouse cub is a rollercoaster. Amidst the runs, learning the expectations of your crew, cleaning, dealing with strains the job puts on family life, and races to the front door, it can be overwhelming. Brian was always there to help talk it out, let me vent, and a lot of the time, show me how things needed to get done. I always heard firefighting was a brotherhood, and working with Brian proved it.

Anybody that knows Brian, knows he has been through a great deal since coming on the job. He has been subject to injury, illness and family loss. Amazingly, he remains resilient and inspiring. Many would crumble under the weight of what Brian has been tested by. He continues to be the same upbeat, funny, and good-natured guy he has always been as well as a terrific partner to Shalon and caregiver to her two girls. And, until recently, he continued to show up for work everyday at the firehouse and provided the same amazing service to the city in spite of tough circumstances.

The reason for this GoFundMe post is because Brian is being tested again. He has been diagnosed with Classical Hodgkins Lymphoma. Given the aggressive nature of the cancer, he has already begun chemotherapy treatments. He will be unable to work for an indeterminate amount of time and doesn’t meet eligibility requirements for the presumptive cancer disability benefit that would keep him on payroll. People are working to donate hours to help cover some of this short fall, but it won’t be enough. I am hoping we can pool together and help support him and his family during this rough time. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and couldn't go to a better cause.
