Bria is going to Uganda!

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,

I am very excited to invite you along on an opportunity I have this summer to participate in a mission trip with One City Ministries.   https://onecityministries.org/

I will be going to Uganda from June 9-23 with a team of eight others from my church, Growlife. I am really looking forward to going overseas for the very first time, experiencing another culture, and supporting the work of One City Ministries! I know it will change my life.

I am writing to you asking for support for my trip.  What I need the most is prayer support, since this will be a long challenging trip with lots of learning curves, but of course I also need financial support. I am asking for financial support in an effort to cover a portion of my trip expense. The total cost I am attempting to raise is $2,700.  But please, do not feel obligated to give! I mostly wanted to write this letter to inform my friends and family (and my parent's friends! Ü,) of my upcoming trip as well as simply offer an opportunity to partner with me on my journey.

If you do feel led to give, please go to www.growlifechurch.com/give/  where you can click on the Online Giving Platform, enter your donation and use the "Fund' drop down to then choose Uganda Mission Trip 2020.  In the memo box please type my name.  This will ensure that the amount is dedicated to my trip.  (Or, you can always write a regular check and send it back to me.  Please make checks out to Grow Life Church with my home address: 27602 Sky Lake Circle, Wesley Chapel, FL. 33544)

Thank you for reading, thank you for praying, and thank you for hearing my heart and excitement for this trip! If you would like to read more about One City Ministries please see below.

Thanks again,

Bria Norland

One City is filled with people who are faithful, loving, generous, and kind; who have devoted their lives to seeing the Mbale district work its way out of poverty and into a stronger overall economy.  It’s hard to fathom that one ministry could have such a large impact on an area, but OCM truly does. Some of their recent accomplishments that we get to be a part of when we go include:

Not one child has died from Malaria in the past six years.  Prior to their arrival in Mbale, there were several child deaths in the village each week from Malaria.  The reason this toll has decreased is due to the education of Malaria prevention as well as parents having OCM jobs which allow them to afford medication when a child does contract the disease.
OCM has become the second largest employer, next to the government, in the Mbale district.  Mbale is a large city in Uganda and is heavily populated. One City is located about 45 minutes from town and employs hundreds of people from grass “slashers” to engineers to construction workers to agriculturalists.  These jobs are allowing families to buy property when everyone else is selling theirs off, it is allowing them to build brick houses when many still live in grass huts, and it is allowing them to put their children through school when most children need to stay home and work in the fields.
There is a network of hundreds of artists, some from Kenya, others from Tanzania and most from Uganda that put their unique skills to work in creating crafts that are largely sold and distributed in the United States.  Unlike many artisans, these experts receive fair wages from their work and are paid when OCM receives the work, not when it is sold. This has allowed hundreds of families to build a sustainable, successful foundation.
OCM and its partner pastors are a part of a network of over 100 churches in the area.  We are able to meet with these pastors and discuss biblical foundations and how the Church in Uganda can be strengthened.
The latest development at One City are their weekly medical clinics. Medical attention in the area is essentially non-existent. One City notice a huge need when patients would show up at their gates looking for treatment. In the middle of 2017 they began hosting weekly medical clinics and began planning to build a permanent center that will offer care 24/7/. Construction for this Medical Center broke ground in 2019!
