Brewy's Private Rehabilitation

Donation protected
On the 19th October 2023, Brewy was found at home by his fiancé Gem collapsed on the bed, confused and complaining of a headache and neck pain. Gem was able to call an ambulance very quickly where he was taken to Frimley Park Hospital, where he was still at this stage conscious although very confused and in pain.

Brewy had an initial CT scan which showed he had a basal cisternal SAH (Sub Arachnoid Hemorrhage) with early hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain) and was soon referred and transferred under the Neurosurgical team at St Georges in Tooting.

Soon after arriving, Brewy was found to have deteriorated very quickly and had another CT scan which showed a acute Hydrocephalus (a build up of fluid on the brain). He was taken to the Operating Room instantly for placement of right frontal EVD (a drain into the brain to relieve the pressure).

Gem and Paul (Kevin's Brother) spent all this time by his side until after the EVD was put in place and Brewy was stabalised. Gem and Paul were sent home to rest and were told to return on Friday 20th morning. However, things took a turn for the worst and at 7am on Friday 20th October Gem was called and was asked to return to the hospital as quick as she could. She was told that Brewy was on a knife edge and was essentially given an hour to live.

Gem and close family made thier way immediately up to St Georges to be by his side. Thankfully a miracle happened (along with the amazing support of the Consultants and Staff at St Georges) they managed to save Kevin’s life and keep him stable. He spent the next 4 days heavily sedated with Gem, family and close friends by his side.

4 days later he was taken for the Prosterior Fossa Craniotomy (a surgical procedure to make an opening in the head to gain access to the brain) and clipping (clipped the aneurysm) of the Right PICA Aneurysm.

A PICA Aneurysm is a rare form of aneurysm which accounts for 0.5-1% of all brain aneurysms.

He spent the next 2 weeks on Neuro Intensive Care on a ventilator with endo tracheal tube and sedation. 10 days later after the trauma Brewy was on the path to some sort of recovery and was moved to the High Dependency Ward at St Georges.

Brewy has now been moved to Frimley Park Hospital where he has been for weeks now, waiting for a bed to become available at a local specialist Neurological Rehabilitation Hospital.

Although Brewy is physically able and back to is his gorgeous wonderful self, he has lost his his immediate short term recall memory.

This is where we are now, Brewy is waiting for a bed to become available to start his inpatient neurological rehabilitation journey where he could be for up to 12 weeks. After this unknown period of time Brewy will need on-going rehabilitation from home which sadly isn't funded on the NHS.

This brings me to why we are setting up this gofundme page, we would love to be able to offer Brewy ongoing private neurological and physical rehabilitation after he has completed the NHS program. This will either be at home or a local clinic and will be an hourly session twice a week. Having done extensive research into this, we are aware that the costs will be approx £300-400 per hour plus the cost of the initial assessment which is c. £1000.

We will not know the extent of the ongoing treatment needed for Brewy until he has completed the NHS program. But any money which is raised and not needed we will donate back into the amazing services which have helped and supported Brewy.

While we know the road ahead will be a long one, full of challenges, we feel incredibly positive with the amazing progress that Brewy has already made in such a short period of time and with this gofundme page and the NHS we hope to give Brewy every possibility to return to his life he has always known. Which is the most wonderful sports coach/PE teacher, son, brother, family member, step dad, friend and fiancé to the incredibly strong Gem.

Thanks so much for your time and any donations made. We appreciate everyone who has been here for us.
