Brenda Schoenherr-Thelen

Our beautiful Brenda Schoenherr-Thelen has been recently diagnosed with Primary Peritoneal Cancer which is now stage 4. She underwent surgery this week to remove as much cancer tissue as possible. Unfortunately the doctors found that the cancer was further advanced than previously thought. It has spread throughout her abdomen and is covering all of the peritoneum (lining of the abdomen) including the colon, ovaries and surrounding tissue. They sampled fluid from the lungs during surgery and found it is positive for cancer cells making her cancer now stage 4. For this reason, Brenda will be starting chemotherapy very soon. Her chemotherapy will be scheduled every 3 weeks for 6 treatments ending in February 2022.

We are starting a Go Fund Me account to help her with her upcoming medical and personal expenses. Brenda just celebrated the 30 year anniversary of her in home daycare. Sadly, she has closed her daycare due to her upcoming chemotherapy. She was so sad to have to part with her loving daycare families. In addition to her daycare, Brenda is very involved in the community. She teaches art classes of all kinds at the Sioux City Art Center. She is also an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She is often volunteering her artistic skills in different areas of the community to help those around her.

Despite the overwhelming news of her diagnosis, the pain associated with her cancer and the abrupt change in the course of her daily life, Brenda remains in good spirits. Her only request has been for prayers for her healing and comfort for her family. That is all. What I love most about Brenda is her contagious glowing smile, positive outlook and her unwavering faith. She is altruistic, humble and simply a beautiful soul. I am confident that all who know her would agree. I believe wholeheartedly that prayers can move mountains. Please include Brenda and her family in your prayers.
