Breast Hope & Strength- Help Eva

My fear that has been haunting me for 14 years came true in December 2017 when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

My name is Eva Hawryluk, I'm a wife and a mother of two beautiful boys aged 7 and 2.

My life was first turned upside down when I lost my Mum to Cancer in March 2003. I miss my Mum dearly, she was my best friend and confidant. My Mum was first diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 50's. After beating Breast Cancer, my Mum battled Bowel and Lung Cancer which eventually invaded her brain. My Mum fought to the very end but lost her battle to Cancer aged 60.

Unfortunately, 2017 was an unbelievable and terrible year. Not only was I diagnosed with Breast Cancer, my Husband suffered a health crisis of his own (Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformation, Paget's Disease, Thyroid Tumor, Osteoporosis, Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Kidney Stones) combined with the decline in his parent’s health. This resulted in my Husband dedicating all his time to coordinating hospital and medical appointments rather than focusing on work.

My breast cancer was only detected following a referral my Doctor gave me for a breast check for no reason. Upon being diagnosed with a Breast Cancer of 2.6 cm just before Christmas 2017, I was horrified and shell-shocked. My world was turned upside down again. Worst thoughts flooded my head and images of my Mum’s suffering resurfaced. I could not stop thinking about my own family and how young and precious they are as well as the heartache I suffered from losing my Mum at a young age. I did not want my own family to experience such a loss.

I received a recommendation to see a Breast Surgeon on 20 December 2017 and saw him on 21 December 2017. Unbeknown, I was in surgery on Friday 22 December 2017 to have a Lumpectomy and remove 1 Lymph Node during a time when all medical professionals were going on Christmas holidays. I know my Mum is watching over me from Heaven above.
Following Breast Surgery, my Treatment Plan includes 30 rounds of Radiation, Monday to Friday, over 6 weeks.

I have been fried with Radiation. I felt very tired and nauseous after each treatment. My skin turned purple and is peeling off, weeping and bleeding. The burn on the treated area is unbelievable and requires a lot of care, dressings and ointments. It is definitely taking its toll. I am required to dress the burns 3 times per day and regularly attend the Hospital for assistance.
My Treatment Plan also includes taking a daily hormone blocking tablet for 5 to 10 years but the length of the treatment depends on results from clinical trials to be completed in 2023. The possible side effects of the drug, which can be quite severe, may include, among others, a new breast lump, liver problems and bone pain. These are side effects that I pray to God that I do not experience.

I have a medical team of Surgeons, Radiation Oncologist, Oncology Hormone Specialist, Oncology Physiotherapist and breast care nurses and require regular appointments. The amount of scans and doctor appointments I need are very expensive.

I have been trying to stay strong for my family and friends. I'm not the type of person to ask for help even if I'm struggling. I'll rather just deal with it but sometimes in life or my fight for life I just have to put my pride aside and give people the opportunity to help in any way they can. The financial stress is the last thing my family and I need. I need to do this for my boys, so I'm very grateful for anything anyone can contribute to heal me.

Keep me in your prayers.
Lots of love and light.
