Breast Cancer Treatment and Recovery for Nancy

Hi, my name is Jennifer and my good friend Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2021, on her 42nd birthday. She will need surgery to remove the cancer and the breast (a mastectomy), and may need a mastectomy of both breasts if they find any signs that the cancer has spread to the other side. Her mastectomy surgery has already been delayed a few months because of her lack of insurance and ability to pay. She does now have some help through a grant for surgery costs but will still have some uncovered medical expenses. Nancy is self employed and will be out of work for at least 10 weeks after her surgery. She is worried about how she and her husband will cover household expenses during that time. Nancy will be consulting with a surgeon in the next week and hopes to have her surgery scheduled very soon (within 2-3 weeks).
