Braxton's Heart Journey

As many of you know, Garrett and I found out at our 20 week ultrasound that our little boy has hypo-plastic left heart. This is a severe conditions, that will require him to have 3 different surgeries. The first one he will need right when he is born, 2nd surgery at 6 months of age and his final surgery at age 2. The other downfall to his condition is that the surgeries can not be preformed here in Sioux falls. Garrett and I have decided to travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan for his surgeries. More than likely i will be sent to Michigan around 36 to 37 weeks and have to deliver there so they can preform his surgery right away. After his surgery the stay at the hospital could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on his progress and hopes of no complications. We both have insurance, which has been very helpful and will continue to be helpful, but they will only cover a certain amount. We will both be expected to take longer time off from our jobs due to his condition. Garrett and I are working with what we have and will continue to do our best. We will also be throwing a benefit at one of the bars here in Sioux falls, we just do not have all the details worked out on that yet. When we do we will make an event on Facebook and get the word out there. Once he is here in September, i will be able to make journals and keep everyone updated on this site. When that time comes you can just subscribe to our page and keep updated on his surgery. We have been lucky enough to have amazing friends and family in our lives who have been so supportive of our situation. This has been a struggle for us but we know our little guy will fight and he will make it. It may not be an easy road but we are prepared for the future and will continue to do our best.
