Don protégé
Hello, my name is Brandon Boling. This is my journey over the past 5 months and why I’m asking for assistance today.
My medical journey started back in November of 2023 when I told my primary care physician that I was having trouble swallowing. She felt it was something more than just acid reflux and referred me to a gastroenterologist. The GI doctor did an endoscopy and found that there was a large tumor inside my esophagus. They tried to culture pieces of the tumor over the course of multiple endoscopies and unfortunately all results showed inconclusive.
I was finally able to get some results after a thoracic surgeon performed a thoracoscopy and sent the cultures off to molecular testing. The testing showed that I have an exceedingly rare form of cancer; a “glomus tumor” with a “notch mutation” and it’s in the same field as sarcomas. In the history of cases similar to mine, there are only a handful of documented examples in literature. After the diagnosis, I needed the help of a team capable of working with rare cancers like mine. I started working with the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center. Dr Jordan Miller (my thoracic surgeon) explained that this tumor will eventually need surgery in the form of a full esophagectomy. In the meantime though we would do a chemotherapy treatment plan put together by Dr Reema Patel (my oncologist). Dr Patel explained that the type of chemo I would undergo (AIM-Adriamycin® + Ifosfamide + Mesna) is a very aggressive form of chemo and would consist of 4 or more rounds. Each round would be 5 days in the hospital and 2 weeks out.
— UPDATE: 6/27/24
I’ve finished 4 rounds of chemo and I’ve now been referred to MD Anderson in Houston. They are looking at all options but are leaning towards surgery on tumor. We’re hopeful that surgery can be done some time in July.
We’re praying that the tumor isn’t encroaching into my airway or my aorta. If it’s not, then there’s a solid chance that the doctors at MDA can fully remove the cancer.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to this GoFundMe. —
I am not one to normally ask for money, but I would appreciate anything that you can afford to help with. I can promise you that I will do my part and continue to fight this cancer. I have 2 amazing sons, a beautiful girlfriend and a little boy on the way, so I’ve got a lot to fight for. Please feel free to help in whatever way you can donation wise. I am so very grateful to anyone who chooses to donate.
I love you all and appreciate each and every one of you.
