Brandon's Life Changing Opportunity
As any parent feels, we want the best for our kids. When opportunities arise, we do all we can to make them happen. Brandon has been accepted into the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, CA! We couldn't be more proud of him! He has accomplished many things in a short amount of time: Honor Roll, Second Class Scout (Boy Scouts of America), California State Championship in the Scholastic Surf Series (pretty big deal according to the locals for someone from North Carolina), First Counselor Deacons Quorum. Other activities include singing, guitar, trombone, skateboarding, hiking, and soccer.
Brandon was diagnosed with full Tourette's Syndrome in 2012 along with ADHD. Consistent activity throughout each day keeps him level. At a young age, this kindhearted, compassionate young man strives to understand and overcome the challenge and frustration of Tourette's Syndrome. As a military family, we face challenges such as moving and long deployments away from dad. This Spring, my husband will deploy to Japan for 11 months. I know this will eventually take a toll on Brandon, and at such a vulnerable age he needs structure, support, and a strong role model in core values. Our goal is to help him recognize his potential, increase his self-confidence, and manage life's day-to-day challenges with his unique characteristics.
The Army and Navy Academy is a prestigious college prep school and we know Brandon would benefit greatly from this opportunity. And yes, among the 17 sports offered at ANA, competitive surfing is on the list! Still new to the San Diego area, we fell upon the ANA just a few weeks ago and received his official acceptance letter as a Day Cadet today! School starts August 30th. The cost with an active duty military discount is over $20,000. This fund raiser is to help pay for half of the cost which is due by the first day of school.
With Brandon's challenges with Tourette's Syndrome and the type of medication he takes to help with the severe tics, we realize he will more than likely not have the opportunity in the future to join the military. With this opportunity, his chances of attending college and earning college scholarships are highly achievable.
Our family appreciates your help in allowing him this life changing opportunity! Anything you can offer to help us is greatly appreciated!
