Don protégé
Leah was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, a type of breast cancer, in April, 2020. The cancer had metastasized into her lymph system. She underwent surgery in June, 2020 to remove the tumor and 14 lymph nodes.
Because of the risks associated with chemotherapy and radiation, Leah has chosen an Integrated Medical approach combining a treatment plan from her Naturopathic Oncologist, her Oncologist from the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and Care Oncology Clinic. She is on a Metabolic Drug Cocktail Protocol as well as High Dose IV Vitamin C Therapy, Mistletoe Injections, and supplements. Leah's healing journey has included some radical diet and lifestyle modifications including regular fasting protocols and a lot of nature therapy hiking in the mountains!
This treatment protocol has the capacity to kill the cancer stem cells that are responsible for the high rates of recurrence and mortality. As well, a major benefit to this protocol is that Leah is able to maintain a high quality of life and remain active and functional during her treatment and recovery.
Unfortunately, only one of the medications (Tamoxifen) is covered through Alberta Health while the rest of her integrated treatment protocol are out-of-pocket expenses including: prescription medications, treatments, consultations, follow-up tests, and supplements.
Currently the total cost of Leah's treatment protocol is $3,200 per month, which is re-evaluated every 3 months going forward. The projected time frame for most of these treatments is a year or possibly longer. It is also recommended she have a circulating tumor cell blood test post-surgery (this month) and once per year as a follow-up, which costs $1,000 per test.
Leah is a single parent of her teenage daughter Paige. She has been off work for several months due the COVID-19 shutdown and recovery from surgery. She is facing very uncertain employment stability due to the economic fallout of COVID-19.
Leah's immediate family has been able to contribute to her medical costs, but it has become unsustainable. Without broader support, Leah will not be able to finish her treatment program.
Thank you for considering supporting Leah in her healing journey <3!
