Dental Hygiene Fitness's mission is to help those that have no dental insurance and low income families. The private practice dental hygienie office opened in October 2009. I try to keep my fees affordable so people can have their teeth cleaned, exams and dental x-rays at a fee that they can budget into their lives. Gum disease, whether chronic or acute affects the whole body. When people can keep their mouths healthy (just like an oil change on their vehicle) they can maintain their teeth for a lifetime. I strive to educate my patients as well as encourage them to do their part at keeping their mouth and whole body healthy.
Because the majority of my clients are low income or middle class, they too struggle to put their dental care before paying their bills, feeding the family, etc. Thus, many of my clients are not on a consistent schedule in the office.
I have struggled financially to keep my business open for the last two years. I seldom take a financial draw for myself.
I serve women in breast cancer therapy with discounted dental visits via the Hope Lives Foundation in Fort Collins. Also, I serve the homeless, unemployed or low income families via Dental Connections in Fort Collins. With Dental Connections I generally see 2 - 4 clients a month on a very discounted basis. I am now one of only a handfull of dental offices taking medicaid clients at my office. If I can no longer keep my business open, these, as well as my many uninsured middle class families and fixed income retirees will not have a place to get affordable quality dental cleanings and exams.
My biggest struggle is trying to pay my rent and purchase supplies. I have been asked to vacate my office space. I am searching for a new office space that I can bring my massage therapist businesses with me. Please help me so that I can continue to live my passion, to help others with their preventive dental care and an enjoyable dental hygiene experience.
Every month is a financial juggling act to keep the doors open and reaching out to clients in my community. Though my ultimate goal would be to add upgraded digital xrays and decent computors to my office, today, I just wish to take the stress of loosing my dental hygiene practice 'off my plate'.
I thank God every day that I have my personal needs met. I have a car, though it doesn't have a working air conditioner and I juggle keeping housemates in my home to keep my place to live. I'm a fighter and will do what ever it takes to make this happen.
