2020 Boonville Kiwanis Back-2-School Bash!
The year 2020 is not even half over, but it has already become a year that most would like to forget. Crisis has gripped not just our nation, but our entire world, through virus and inequity. COVID-19 has spurred fear and depression that this generation has never seen. It has resulted in the loss of millions of jobs and isolated friends and family from each other. The death of George Floyd and the continued Black Lives Matter movement has shown us that we have a long way to go to reach equality, equity, and harmony in our neighborhoods. Yet, when we know how we have failed, we also can find out how to succeed.
This is why the Boonville Kiwanis Club created the Back-2-School Bash in 2015. What started out as a simple school supply distribution, has turned into an event which brings our entire community together – rich and poor; black and white. The club hands out packs of school supplies to all students from K-5th grade regardless of financial need. This removes the stigma of a hand-out and reinforces that we are ONE community, not only a collection of “haves vs have-nots.” Last year, we were blessed to hand out almost 500 school supply packs; this equates to about 75% of the entire elementary school population in Boonville! We want to do more and hope that we can add our Middle School to the supply distribution.
Our event will take place on Sunday, August 16th from 1-3 pm at Lions Park. We are always working to bring in more social and civic organizations to grow into a fun gathering to celebrate our children and bless them on their return to the classroom. Last year, we worked with local organizations to give out free hot dogs, chips, and drinks as well as offing free haircuts to several dozen students.
We need your help and your support. Any donation will help us reach our goal; it could be $1,000, $500, $100, or even $25. The more of you that can help, the more we can show these children how much their community stands behind them and supports them. Any donation in excess of $1,000 will be recognized with a banner on site of the event and recognition on all flyers and media presentations. With the help of the Boonville Local Agency Funding, your donations are DOUBLED up to $9,200!!! So, please give generously to help serve our local youth.
