Books in Honor of Irene Surmon
Donation protected
- Purpose: Get Books for School Libraries
- Goal: $1000
- Deadline: July 31, 2022
I am collecting these funds in memory of my mother, Irene Surmon. Irene volunteered for 25 years at the school where I teach. She started by helping me teach my left handed students cursive writing in 5th grade. Soon she was helping cut paper for art projects or anything else that needed to be done. She helped other teachers at our site as well. Irene mostly liked to help students with reading. That was her passion. She knew how important reading was. She read books to students then helped them take computer tests on them. Also, she helped them memorize sight words. She coached them by giving them clues on how to remember them. She encouraged them by saying, "I know it's in there, you just have to bring it out." She told them to look for the words in books and on road signs. She enjoyed giving the students notes to take home saying they passed their test and giving out prizes when they passed each level. She called herself "Ramona Grandma" and the kids called her that, too. Irene had a loving heart and a desire to see every student be their very best. Rest in Peace, Mommy. We will miss you.
