Book Drive for LGBT Youth Centers

Help Us Donate 100 Copies of THE ONE YOU GET to LGBT Youth Centers Across America

Jason Tougaw's memoir THE ONE YOU GET, winner of the Dzanc Nonfiction Prize, tells Jason's heartfelt, surprising story of growing up gay in Southern California in the seventies. Through neuroscience, Dungeons & Dragons, new wave music, and family lore, Jason works to answer the big questions: “Where did I come from,” “How did I become me,” and “What happens when the family dog accidentally overdoses on acid?”

As part of its mission to promote all people and empower new generations of the literary community, Dzanc Books has agreed to donate 100 copies of Jason's book to LGBT youth and community centers across the nation.

We have sent inquiries to over 160 LGBT allied groups, and we're committed to expanding this donation drive as we connect with more youth and community centers. We're also thrilled to receive suggestions for groups that might be interested in partnering with us.


Dzanc has agreed to donate the books at half price. We're seeking donations to help pay for the other half ($8.45 per book) plus shipping costs.  Essentially: every $10 donation puts a book on a youth center shelf.
