Bonita Morgan Scholarship - CTO Scholarship.

Hello everyone, my name is Jonathan Morgan and I will be running a mile every hour for 24 hours to raise funds for the Bonita Morgan Memorial Scholarship in association with the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).

In April 2018, my Mom (Bonita Morgan) lost her fight with cancer, which was a huge blow for the family as she passed away at the early age of 61. In recognition of her successful tenure of over 20 years, first as the Head of Human Resources at CTO, and later on her significant contribution as the CTO Director of Resource Mobilisation and Development, the CTO Scholarship Foundation (http://www.ctofoundation.org/) created a scholarship in her name in 2019, so that her legacy can live on helping individuals throughout the Caribbean. Since then, the scholarship has sponsored two individuals to pursue degrees in Tourism, Philicia Walters from Nevis (click here to read more about Philicia's story) and Antonia Pierre from Dominica (click here to read about Antonia's story).

However, times have been quite difficult, and funding that would have helped more individuals in the Caribbean have run low. For example, the annual fundraiser, which usually takes place in NYC was severley impacted due to COVID-19 restrictions and has not yet fully recovered. What was previously a USD$5,000 grant to help individuals further their educational journey and contribute to the development of tourism in the Caribbean is now down to USD$3,000. In the next year, that may be down to USD$2,000, or the Bonita Morgan Scholarship might be rescinded altogether. To prevent that from happening, I would like to help.

Therefore, for my run on Saturday, May 28, 2022, my goal is to raise USD$2,000 ahead of the announcement of the 2022 scholarship awardees. The challenge...run 1 mile on the hour for 24 hours. So from 6 am Saturday morning to 6 am Sunday morning and a total of 24 miles (therefore hoping to raise just over USD$80 per mile). This will be my first time attempting such a run so I'm hoping to smash this goal! If we go over the USD$2,000, fantastic! This could mean another recipient for 2022! All the proceeds raised will go to the CTO Scholarship Foundation.
