Bomb Factory Theatre CIC, a women-led theatre company, will be opening the UK's first-ever theatre space dedicated solely to the platforming and development of women and non-binary new writing. We will be grateful for any donations, large or small, to help us along this exciting journey.
OUR ETHOS IS SIMPLE. We want to rectify the issue of representation in the industry. We want to make politically engaged and genre-defying new work. We want to challenge the idea of 'serious theatre' by creating experimental and fun work that interrogates conventional, patriarchal structures. And now, we have our very own space in which we can do this!
But, we need your help.
Our aims are thus:
- The Bomb Factory Theatre will be the first new-writing venue dedicated solely to women and non-binary writers in the UK.
- On January 1st 2022, we will open a three-month-long submission window for writers' to send in their full-length scripts. From this submission window, we will offer free dramaturgical development and support to our chosen writers, with the possibility of putting on their play, all within our newfound space.
- We want to provoke change by engaging individuals, local schools, and communities with a broader outreach programme. We will be opening fortnightly masterclasses and drop-in sessions for disadvantaged young people to come and work within our space. We will provide bespoke advice and access to a quiet studio space to encourage young people to get writing. We want to make theatre education more accessible for all.
- We want to create a hub for women and non-binary artists where they feel like they can take risks with their work. We understand that many mainstream theatres are risk aversive and still consider women's new-writing as a risk. We want to change this. We want to create a space where these writers feel positively about testing their work, challenging themselves, and making bold and exciting theatre.
The arts have suffered immeasurably over the past year. At the Bomb Factory Theatre, we need as much financial support as we can get. We have therefore set up this GoFundMe, and all proceeds will be put directly into creating The Bomb Factory Theatre venue. We are transparent with our donors and supporters, ensuring that our fundraising is legal, open, honest and respectful.
