My name is Rod Murray and I’ve lived in Morris County my whole life. In 2012 I achieved the dream I’d been working toward for 25 years when I opened Body4Life Training studio on “Wilmot Walk” behind the Morristown Diner, along the Farmers’ Market parking lot. My focus on health and fitness began when I enlisted in the Navy at 17 (the Morristown Post Office was the enlistment center back then) and served as a corpsman with the Navy and the Marine Corps. I furthered my knowledge through college study in Nuclear Medicine and Health Physics and certifications from American College of Sports Medicine as a certified Exercise Physiologist, EP-C, a Certified Inclusive Fitness Instructor, USA Olympic Lifting and Cycling Coach and Licensed Massage Therapist. At the same time, I worked at local gyms and rehab facilities, saving and planning to create this “not a gym” studio where I specialize in teaching people how to move better, feel stronger and enjoy their activities of daily living more.

Body4Life is unique in that I work individually, training one body at a time - yours. I developed my own training program into a guidebook, Dynamic Flexibility, Train Your Body to Move. I am also a 500 hundred hour RYT, registered yoga teacher. Daily yoga practice has benefited me beyond expectations both physically and mentally, especially during this difficult year, and I incorporate individual yoga instruction for clients who can benefit from it. While I continue to work 1:1 with clients on weekdays, before Covid we also had evening classes of my own design -  Dynamic Flexibility, YOLA (yoga for linear athletes) and on wintry Saturday mornings, “bring your own bike” Ride Inside classes.

Right now I’m working with clients one-on-one in the studio and online but evening classes are on hold indefinitely. This is a loss for our community and it’s making it harder to cover the studio rent and utilities. Like many small business owners, I’ve lain awake many nights this year, thinking of every possible option. Working entirely online, from my apartment, would mean losing  all the hard work and life’s savings that I put in to build Body4Life as a specialized home for movement-based training. My goal for this fundraiser is to get through winter 2020-21 with our doors open and the lights on, so that I can keep helping Morristown move better for the next ten years, right on Wilmot Walk. So thank you for pitching in - or better yet, for becoming a client, so that I can help you, in turn.

Warmest wishes for a healthy and happy 2021,

Rod Murray
