Let’s Build Bob’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’

When Led Zeppelin IV came out, my dad handed 6-year-old me the album cover and asked, “What’s so unique about that jacket?” I looked at textured wallpaper background; squinted at the old man with the bundle of sticks; scoured the back for hidden surprises. Nothing truly unique or special jumped out at me about that cover. But the music sure did.

Dad was always introducing my sister and me to the latest and greatest rock-and-roll music of the 70s. I recall a visit to a record store back in 1977. My dad asked the clerk, “What’s new?” “Foreigner,” said the clerk. “Aren’t they all?” replied my dad.

Headlining my first live concert was a relatively new band on the scene called Fleetwood Mac. Their opening act was a freshly solo Kenny Loggins – recently split from Jim Messina. However, undoubtedly my most memorable early concert experience was a very young Cat Stevens – and that magical Banapple Gas. Music was – and is – a huge part of my life…thanks in large part to my dad.

That’s what makes this opportunity to help my dad so special.

On July 25, 2018, my dad suffered a stroke – two of them, to be precise. He is currently powering through intensive, in-patient rehabilitation – including physical, occupational, and speech therapy. More than anything he wants to go home; but in order to make that happen, we need to add a porch, new steps and a walker-accessible ramp to the front of his house.

Our goal is to raise enough money to build Bob’s very own ‘Stairway to Heaven’ – a safe, secure, accessible entrance into his home.

To help us accomplish our goal, my employer, Live Nation Entertainment, the world’s largest and most wonderful live event promoter, will match any funds we raise at the 50-day mark – up to $5,000.

My dad is my rock, my hero, my everything. Now, when he needs me most, I want to make sure I do absolutely everything in my power to help him through this difficult time.

Oh, and what’s so unique about the Led Zeppelin IV album cover? It has no words on it.
