Life as we knew it, where will this take us?

On July 13th 2018, Bob Meisenheimer was in a car accident that left him fighting for his life. Bob, his wife, Mary Ellen (Stahly), their two children, Emma and Aiden, have had their lives changed, forever. The impact this has had, will take patience, time, God’s Grace and your generous involvement to work through.

Bob was at Northwestern Memorial Hospita, Surgical ICU,l in Chicago, for five weeks diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury, pulmonary embolism, kidney failure, c-diff, collapsed lung, pneumonia and 3 broken vertebrae. Surgery was performed on his, diaphragm, stomach, broken left arm, and colon (resulting in an ostomy). He required intubation, ventilation, multiple central lines, dialysis, a tracheotomy and a feeding tube.

Through the great support of the medical teams and constant prayer, Bob is currently at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago, where he is doing intense physical, occupational, and speech rehabilitation.

His recovery will be a difficult one:

- Bob was the primary source of income for his family. This is a challenge as he only had short term insurance and in his current state cannot work.

- Bob was on a ventilator and unconscious for the most part of 4 weeks, after waking up, he has been unable to move the left side of his body, can’t walk, needs help with all activities of daily living and 24 hour care.

- After discharge from Shirley Ryan, physical rehabilitation and 24 hour care will continue, this will include but not limited to; handicap modifications to their home.

- Bob’s claim on Workman’s Compensation has been denied.

-Mary Ellen had to resign from her job, supporting Bob is a priority. Mary Ellen has battled Multiple Sclerosis for the last 20 years. Bob has been her primary support through multiple hospitalizations, fatigue, necessary infusions, heart attacks, etc.

We are asking for help with the massive financial burden, the family is facing. We are asking for any donation no matter the amount and to please share this post. The future is uncertain for Bob. As we can all imagine, this tragedy has changed life as they knew it. You can make a difference! Thank you!
