Thank you for visiting this page, that has been set up to support Bob Mee in his fight with cancer. Bob is fighting a difficult case of stage 3 germ cell seminoma (testicular cancer). When found in earlier stages, testicular cancer can be 90% curable. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with stage 3. It seems that every time doctors see progress, it doesn't take long for him to go back to square one. Sadly, Bob had found out in May that the cancer has now spread to his brain. Doctors have been perplexed to why his case has been so difficult to treat. Bob, along with his wife Jo Anna and two sons Bobby and Andy, have been lifelong residents of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Bob is currently employed with Georgia Pacific and has worked there for 14 yrs. Bob has always been one of the first people to step up and help others in need. My name is Bill Haid and I am Bob's father in-law. Bob has given me permission to tell his story.
Bob Mee's Story
On Thanksgiving Day 2015, Bob had been complaining of severe lower back pain. Bob had paid a visit to his local emergency room, where doctors found a large mass on his abdomen. He was immediatley admitted to the hospital. A week later he was diagnosed with stage 3 germ cell seminoma (testicular cancer). Since his diagnosis, Bob has endured five cycles of chemotherapy (three out of five cycles were inpatient at the Cleveland Clinic), a bone marrow transplant, and an orchiectomy surgery. In preparing for collection of stem cells for his bone marrow transplant, he had two different ports placed in his chest. Both ports brought on a septic infection and two separate stays(week stay) in ICU. After his first septic infection in May of 2016, Bob had a severe reaction to an antibiotic. This reaction triggered D.R.E.S.S syndrome. This required a week stay in ICU and a months stay on a regular floor, between a local hospital and the Cleveland Clinic. In April 2017, Bob had major surgery, to remove retro-perennial lymph nodes. This surgery had major complications. Complications include, but not limited to, a severed aorta and the removal of a kidney. Bob spent a week in ICU and a week on a regular floor at the Cleveland Clinic. Bob, had in home nursing care after he returned home. In May of 2017, Bob began suffering from debilitating headaches and he lost the function in his left eye, due to a sixth nerve palsy. A MRI had confirmed that the cancer had now spread to his brain. Bob, again had another week stay at the Cleveland Clinic, where he completed a round of radiation treatments. Currently, Bob is receiving outpatient chemotherapy at the Cleveland Clinic. Bob has also suffered partial hearing loss in both ears, due to past chemotherapy treatments.
Due to the multiple treatments and hospital stays, Bob has been out of work for over a year. Bob’s wife Jo Anna, was forced to quit her second job, so she can continue to be his dedicated caregiver. Bob has always been a strong hardworking individual. He is always there to lend a helping hand to others. This was very hard for Bob to agree to let me tell his story and drum up support for his family.
