Help Lauren Bell -Medical Device for Leg

Eighteen months ago, our daughter Lauren endured a hemispherectomy. It seems like yesterday and forever ago at the same time. We celebrate that since surgery she has not had a single seizure! Lauren is such an amazing girl, and continues to make great progress as she “re-trains” the left side of her body from such a traumatic surgery. Even with this progress, she has an important need. And I’m hoping you can help.
For a year and a half, Lauren has worn an AFO (ankle-foot orthosis) brace on her left leg, designed to help support and strengthen it while her nerves regenerate and muscles redevelop. She has worked so dilligently at her therapy with such an increadible attitude, yet it’s coming up short - in a costly way. Lauren has developed a significant limp as a result of her surgery that unfortunately, therapy will not correct. Aside from the obvious mobility challenges, her therapist and doctors believe this will result in long-term injury and serious damage to her hip and back.
The encouraging news is we have come across a solution that the doctors believe can change this for Lauren, even enabling her to walk close to her original normal and pain-free again! The Bioness L300 Foot Drop System is an amazing medical device that will meet this need. Lauren was actually able to test the system recently at therapy as a trial to see if the device would be of help to her. I have to say with tears in my eyes, I watched her walk properly and with strength – within minutes. It was the closest I have seen her walk “normal” since her surgery! You can see how the system looks and works here. We are so excited about it and full of hope for what it can do for her! Her therapists are convinced that this device will make an enormous difference for the rest of Lauren’s life. And so are we!
As you can imagine, this kind of technology comes with a price. Unfortunately, our insurance is not willing to pay anything toward such a purchase. Jeff and I have talked and prayed and decided that for Lauren’s sake, we’re sharing this need. I’m really not good at doing this, but I will do so to help my daughter - and so many of you have continued to ask how you can help. The total needed to purchase this equipment for Lauren is $9,686. This will provide her with the device itself ($8,850), along with the equipment case, electro pads ($336), and an extended warranty ($500) for the unit which will be needed since she will be wearing the device every single day.
