Bryn Mawr 5th Grade Camp

I am a parent of 4 kids who have attended or attend Bryn Mawr Elementary School, in South Seattle. 
I am writing to request your support in sending our 5th graders at Bryn Mawr Elementary to overnight camp at YMCA Camp Seymour.

This is a 3-day, 2-night camp where students are immersed in hands on educational opportunities in classes such as Marine Biology and Enviromental Studies. Students also have opportunities to enjoy the natural surroundings through rock climbing, canoeing, and hiking while developing life long skills like problem solving, collaboratin, and perseverence. 

For many of our students, 5th grade camp marks their first opportunity to experience outdoor education. 

Bryn Mawr is a Title 1 school with one of the highest percentages (10%) of students in Renton School District that are either homeless or in transitional housing. It serves an extremely diverse group of students: 85% students of color, 63% qualify for free and reduced lunch, 30% are English language learners. 

The total cost of camp has increased this year to approximately $13,000, around $170 per student. This is an extreme amount of money for the majority of our students.
Please partner with us to reduce the cost per student so that our 5th graders are able to take part in this life changing opportunity. We need to solidify funds by March 1st, 2018.
