We are coming together as a community to help someone near and dear to our hearts. We are requesting your prayers and support for Alan Thomas who was diagnosed on May 30, 2014 with Stage 3 Colon cancer. Whether you know Alan through Bayside church, as a Coach for the Fair Oaks Soccer League, Fair Oaks Basketball, or as the Produce Manager at Raley’s, you know Alan to be a young, giving, and proud family man. Alan has undergone surgery removing a large tumor and a large portion of his small intestines. At the time of surgery, the Doctors were concerned about the possibility of the cancer spreading into different organs, and because of his family history, the Doctors tested him for Lynch’s Syndrome and then diagnosed him with this as well. For those of you who don’t know about Lynch's, the condition is inherited and increases your risk of colon cancer as well as other forms of cancer that include prostate, kidney, pancreatic, and breast. Researchers estimate that 3 out of every 100 colon cancers are caused by Lynch Syndrome.
Now, the next phase of treatment begins…CHEMO which as you know causes many side effects. His chemo treatments will begin next week and continue over the course of the next 6 months. Due to the negative side effects of chemo, Alan will not be able to work. The last thing he needs to worry about is trying to tough it out and go back to work during his invasive treatment. And that is exactly what he will try to do to support his family. He needs to feel free to rest. Our goal is to raise $10,000. These funds will allow Alan to rest a little easier because he should not be worrying about living expenses and the accumulating medical bills.
His spirit is positive and he is determined to beat this. Alan and Janine are very humbled by this experience and are always the first ones to do whatever is needed to help others. Please help us help Alan and the Thomas family so at least the burden of this battle is lifted from his thoughts as he continues his fight.
