Bloomcraft Accessibility

Help make the Bloomcraft building accessible. We need to raise $4,500 to get started.
Founded in 2015, the Bloomcraft Building, located at 460 Melwood Avenue in Pittsburgh, is the result of over a decade of shared projects, spaces, organizing, collaborations, and friendships. These projects include: The Glitterbox Theater , providing a low-cost community theater venue; 1Hood Media , a collective of socially conscious artists and activists who utilize art as a means of raising awareness about social justice matters affecting people around the world; the Prevention Point Pittsburgh office, the only syringe exchange program in Southwestern Pennsylvania that provides access to supplies and services necessary to reduce harms related to drug use; Prototype , Pittsburgh’s only feminist makerspace; Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative ; The Good Peoples Group ; Stonefruit Community Herbalists ; and Source Pittsburgh Acupuncture , to name just a few.
In the past few years the Bloomcraft building has consulted with four different architects about access to the upper level. After a lot of trial and error, we found Tai + Lee, who believe they will be able to design a ramp solution, with a max of $4,500 to design a solution and submit drawings to the city.
Bloomcraft tenants have volunteered to do as much of the actual construction as we are allowed. We will have to hire a licensed contractor to oversee the volunteer work.
Our first step in working toward making the building truly accessible is to raise the $4,500 necessary to hire Tai + Lee to design and submit their designs to the city.
