Cartwright 5K Gofundme page: our story

Hi everyone,

Firstly, thank you for reading our story and supporting us in any such way that you can. Whether that is donating yourself, taking part in our event or simply sharing our page and leaving a nice comment.

In early August 2020, we unfortunately lost a very much loved and valued member of the Aylsham High School community Mrs Cartwright, formally known as Miss Hogget, to her battle with mental health

Mrs Cartwright was a bubbly, lively person who lit up any room she walked into. As head of Felbrigg house she was an inspiring figure for so many pupils and being a Geography teacher at AHS she shared her love and passion for the outdoors, teaching many to find interest in the world around them and allowing students to travel through the renowned Iceland trips she led. Known for her outgoing personality, passion and enthusiasm within the school, she was just an all-around amazing person and loved very much by everyone within the Aylsham community.

As two past students of hers, Mollie and Ellie (alongside the help and support of Mr Spalding, Mrs Wiseman and Mrs Garnham), we wanted to organise something in which Mrs Cartwright could be remembered. Mrs Cartwright regularly took part in the Blicking 5K park run - an event that provided the means to progress with her running with the added social aspect of running alongside friends and many students of hers.

We thought the perfect way to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and to remember Mrs Cartwright would be to organise a fundraiser event where former colleagues, students, friends and family could take part in a 5k run, jog or walk.

The event we have organised is called the ‘Cartwright 5K’ and will be taking place at Blickling Hall as part of the regular ParkRun event on Saturday the 11th September 2021.  We would like those that take part to wear something yellow where possible.  Yellow is the colour of Felbrigg house at Aylsham High School and also represents Mrs Cartwright’s, warm, enthusiastic and loving personality.

Although we would love to see as many people at Blickling ParkRun as possible so that we can remember Mrs Cartwright together, we understand that this might not be feasible for people who would like to take part but are living at a distance; you can take part via your usual ParkRun or your 5K route in any part of the world - we would love to see your photos of you taking part!

The money raised from our just giving page will be split between two places, one being the Young Minds mental health charity and the other being the TACT Families.

Young Minds have the vision of “A world where no young person feels alone with their mental health.” With the mission to “To make sure all young people can get the mental health support they need, when they need it, no matter what.”

TACT Families vision is to “support the social, and emotional, mental health and well-being of those children, young people and families in The Aylsham Community Trust Schools.”

We want to thank you all again for your kind words, messages, donations and support. We hope to see lots of familiar faces on Saturday the 11th September.
