The Rodriguez kids did everything right. With Dad in the military they moved schools when asked, made new friends, said good bye over and over - whatever was needed.
Mom stayed at home. As a military spouse, she also did everything right. Took care of the kids, gave up her own career to be a stay at home mom, cried in private, paid the bills, moved again - whatever was needed.
You think it will never happen to you. You think your family is not subject to the same pitfalls as others. But then it does. Without going into painful details, Dad made some poor choices and is no longer receiving pay or allowances from the military nor is he able to work and provide for this beautiful family. He does not have normal or ongoing interactions with the family.
Mom has a part-time job and continues working diligently to find full-time employment. She has sustained her family of five for a year off her savings and now that is gone.
I have known this family for many years and Mom is a deeply religious woman who has a faith most cannot fathom. She is a genuine and hard-working lady that just needs a hand-up. Currently she does not qualify for public assistance but each month she is getting closer and closer to losing the home her children have been in for 5 years and feel safe in.
