Literacy Center in Ghana

Donation protected
We are Brady and Kaitlyn, and we left for Ghana, West Africa, in February 2015 to found a literacy center in a rural community where access to resources is very low.

To do this, we have created a nonprofit organization called Untold International , which distills our passion for literature and social justice into a focused goal of providing resources to communities who are not able to provide them on their own.

Our belief is simple:

Storytelling -> Imagination -> Innovation
AND
Ghanaian plights are solved by Ghanaian people with Ghanaian solutions.

Our goal is simply to offer the keys to unlock the potential that already exists within these communities, and to do this by providing resources and education in literacy and literature.

After two months of searching, we partnered with the small rural village of Asisiriwa , in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, to build our first literacy center. A small village of roughly 1,000 people, with little to no access to electricity or running water, Asisiriwa is nonetheless excited about the literacy center, and has already donated land and community volunteers to help with the labor.

Now, we need YOUR help!

Our goal to help Asisiriwa is a community effort, and it's 100% possible, plus it will help us build this center the right way, the best way, and help it be sustainable for years to come--even after we eventually leave the country.

Every little bit helps! Please help us provide literacy programs and education for these Ghanaians who might otherwise go their whole lives without knowing the beauty and transformative power of literature, and the power literacy can have in changing their own lives.

How will we use these funds? The money we raise through this campaign will go toward not only building the center, but also providing valuable training for local community members in teaching and librarianship. We will be implementing innovative reading and literacy programs for students, and inviting guest speakers, performers, and lecturers to the center to continue fostering a passion for literacy.
Here's a brief breakdown:

$20 sponsors one student's entire local language course by providing essential texts.

$50 provides installation or repair of bookshelves.
$100 provides one month's salary for a librarian.
$500 sponsors one class's entire local language course by providing essential texts for up to 40 students.
$1,000 supports guest speakers from other African countries to speak, read, perform, teach, or tour.
$1,600 sponsors one class's entire English literature course by providing essential texts for up to 40 students.
$2,000 provides one year's salary for a literacy instructor in the local language.

When we say every little bit helps, we don't just mean financially. Helping us spread the word is an invaluable donation!
