Blah's Lymphoma Fundraiser
Donation protected
As many of you know, Tyler was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in March last year, and since then has taken in his stride every treatment and its horrific side effects. Two months ago, he underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant in a final attempt to clear his body of cancer. While the Transplant initially seemed to have taken well, he last week received the devastating diagnosis of B cell lymphoma.
Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder is a rare complication that occurs in approximately 3% of all transplant patients. The current treatment for this disorder carries a 50% survival rate.
While Tyler has fought hard to continue his studies this year, he has now come to the difficult decision to withdraw from his Medicine course to focus on recovery. Unfortunately, this means he is no longer eligible for his Austudy Government Support, which is compounded by the fact he has been unable to work for the past two years due to his leukaemia. We cannot describe the effect your generous donations had, both financially and emotionally, in supporting Tyler when we called for help over one year ago. We ask again that you please donate whatever you can to help with the basic costs of living, such as rent and utility bills, that do not stop when you have to enter hospital. We hope that by doing this fundraiser for Tyler, he will not feel encumbered by financial woes during his treatment and can feel the emotional support that we all want to show him.
