   The blues is Mississippi's music and it transcends race and nationality. In West Point, Mississippi, the Black Prairie Blues Museum has been established honoring the legacy of area blues legends including  Howlin' Wolf,  Big Joe Williams, Bukka White, Lucille Bogan and Willie King. When blues is mentioned most people think of the Delta or Memphis or St. Louis or Chicago blues but blues music has some of its deepest roots in the Black Prairie region of Mississippi and Alabama. The museum is focusing on the untold story of the blues of the old Black Prairie which was named after its dark fertile soil. This was the old cotton belt of the 1830s, 40s and 50s. Although its blues is usually labeled as Delta or Hill Country blues, it is in fact Black Prairie Blues. It is a rich music heritage that predates the hills and the delta. Help us to tell its story. A story of the heritage of some of the greatest singers of the blues who have ever lived.

    The Prairie  Belt Blues Foundation has purchased and is renovating a 110 year old building in West Point's National Register of Historic Places Central City Historic District for the museum. A nationally recognized museum design group is designing the exhibits which will feature the museum's collections ranging from clothing to musical instruments to photographs to a piano owned  by Howlin' Wolf. In addition the museum will provide educational outreach to young people to instill in them an appreciation for the heritage of the blues.
