• There are a total of 55,953 youth in prison, jail, or juvenile justice facilities?
• Over 200,000 families in Nashville pay more than 50% of their income towards housing?
• 519,000 children receive SNAP benefits?
• The number of Black and Latino children below 200% poverty is an astounding 293,000?
Why is this important? Clarkisha Kent of TheRoot.com said it best; "Black Panther remains socially and culturally relevant because it imagines a world where black people continually triumph over the influences of capitalism, Western imperialism, and white supremacy." This representation is truly fundamental for young people, especially those who are often underserved and marginalized both nationally and globally. This film reminds our youth of their ability to achieve and overcome!
People on my Porch was so moved by the Help Children See “Black Panther” campaign we decided to start our own for children in the Nashville area. We have partnered with the YMCA Black Achievers Program to provide a minimum of 100 passes to a matinee viewing of Black Panther in its opening weekend.
But we need your help! Matinee tickets are $11.68 per person. We need $1,168 (plus fees) to meet our goal! Donate as little or as much as you can, every dollar counts! Any additional monies raised will be donated to the YMCA Black Achievers Program.
We will be on site at the YCAP YMCA on Tuesday February 13th to distribute tickets. We’d love for all of you to join us in supporting our children. They need us now more than ever; it takes a village!
